August 18, 2009 – Police said a deacon from a Dayton-area church was arrested after he allegedly picked up a prostitute and took her back to his house.

Police reports state the deacon admitted to paying $30 for sexual intercourse on Tuesday night.

Dwight Smith, 62, is a deacon at the Upper Room Apostolic Church. Police reports said that Smith solicited a prostitute at the intersection of North Main and Indianola streets.

Police said an undercover officer followed the pair to Smith’s home in Trotwood. One man who is friends with Smith said he is shocked at what happened. He said he and Smith are single and have become good friends.

Smith and the prostitute were arrested after they drove back into the city of Dayton. The two admitted to officers that they had sexual intercourse, police said.

When officers asked Smith why a deacon would do such a thing, he replied, “A man gets lonely.”

Smith was charged with misdemeanor loitering to solicit prostution. He has since been released from jail.
