An explosion destroyed an enclosed sunroom at one of the homes of Pastor T.D. Jakes Sunday morning, but he was not injured, authorities said Sunday.
Investigators believe the explosion may have been caused by a natural gas line that serviced a swimming pool heater or one to a grill in the sunroom.
The explosion was reported shortly after 6 a.m. in the 8400 block of Meadowbrook Drive, but there was no fire.
“The sunroom was destroyed,” Fort Worth fire Lt. Kent Worley said Sunday. “There was minimal damage to the house.”
Jakes was in another one of his homes on the property, but he was not in the house where the explosion happened, Worley said.
Another person who was in the house with the sunroom heard a noise and discovered the explosion, Worley said.
Worley said firefighters believed the explosion was an accident.
Atmos Energy spokesman Ray Granado said his company ran tests and checked meters around the house after the explosion.
“There was nothing that was picked up as far as gas is concerned, no leaks around the meter or around the house,” he said.
Jakes delivered a sermon at a church prayer service for Barack Obama on the morning he was sworn in as president. Jakes is pastor of The Potter’s House in Dallas, which has more than 28,000 members.
