The first and only person killed by the floods in Montgomery County has been identified.
Channel 4′s news partners at the Leaf Chronicle reported that the victim is 63-year-old Mary Beth Lumpkin, who died on Palmyra Road on Monday night.
She drove off the road into high waters on her way home from spending hours fighting flood damage at Amazing Grace Baptist Church, where her husband is a pastor.
She was on the phone with her youngest son when they were disconnected. He was the one who called for help.
Emergency crews found her car fully submerged. They were able to get her out, but she later died at Gateway Medical Center.
Lumpkin is one of 19 Tennesseans killed in the flood.
