Store Clerk Talks Down Robber, says Jesus Has Something Better for Him

Divine intervention took on new meaning when a gunman changed his mind about robbing a Pompano Beach MetroPCS cellphone store after the store manager told him Jesus wouldn’t approve.

The incident took place at about 10 a.m. July 23, at the MetroPCS store at 1543 S. Cypress Rd.

The suspect entered the store and feigned interest in buying a mobile phone.

After pleasantly chatting up the cashier, the man with a hoodie and a cap pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the register.

But instead of panicking or complying, Nayara Goncalves, 20, a devout Christian and alone in the store, told the gunman she wouldn’t be judgmental about his behavior, but that “Jesus (has) something way better for you.”

“I just asked him, ‘Why are you doing this? Everyone’s hurting right now — tough times’,” Goncalves said. “He seemed a little shocked and we just went from there.”

From there, the pair talked another five minutes, with Goncalves insisting “you don’t have to do this” and offering to connect him with friends who might help him find a job.
