The five-year-old granddaughter of Northland Church pastor Joel Hunter has undergone surgery to remove a tangerine-sized tumor from her brain.

The daughter of Hunter’s oldest son Josh, Ava Hunter was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, glioblastoma multiforme, two weeks ago. She underwent surgery, and the family is considering what treatment options are best for Ava. Doctors have told them that this type of tumor doesn’t respond well to chemotherapy or radiation.

President Barack Obama called Hunter to privately express his concern for Ava and to let the pastor know the president and Michele Obama are praying for her.
